Application for Personalized Number Plates (PLN)

A PLN is a licence number of a person's choice with the purpose of allocating the number to his/her vehicle. A PLN consist of a maximum of seven (7) alphabetical or numerical characters or a combination of alpha-numerical characters followed by the Namibian national flag and the letters NA depicting Namibia. A PLN may not be Obscene, Indecent, Immoral nature or such that it would offend the public morals or decency No person may issue, manufacture or affix to a motor vehicle a PLN number plate unless it is done in accordance with the Regulations.

Application and issuing procedure:
  • Complete application form and attach a copy of a certified ID.
  • Indicate the meaning of the three PLN choices on the application form.
  • ​Submit application form at any Registering Authority (NaTIS Office)
  • The applicant will be informed accordingly if the application is approved or declined. The confirmation will be issued within two working days.
  • Once the PLN is approved, the applicant has 21 days to pay a fee of N$2000,00 for the PLN plates. If the applicant fails to pay within 21 days, the allocation of the PLN expires and the PLN may be available to other applicants.
  • The plates are ordered only after the application fee is paid. There is a maximum ​waiting period of five working days for the manufacturing of the plates

*Duplicate of PLN is N$ 240.00 per plate
*A PLN must be renewed annually. The renewal fee is N$ 280-00.
*If the PLN is not renewed within 90 working days, the PLN becomes void and will be made available to other applicants.

Application for specific numbers
  • Application form for specific licence plate (subject to availability)
  • Attach copy of valid Namibian driver licence, traffic register number or copy of certified Namibian ID
  • Application Fee is N$600.00

Application for Temporary and special permits
  • Application form for Temporary and Special permit
  • Attach copy of valid Namibian driver licence, traffic register number or copy of certified Namibian ID
  • Application fee is N$230.00 and Special Permit is N$ 159.00​

The national road reserve is the full width of a proclaimed road, including the roadside and the roadway. Proclaimed public roads, such as trunk, main and district roads, generally have a road reserve width of 60 meters, measured 30 meters to either side of the road centre line. The road reserves of these roads fall under the jurisdiction of the Roads Authority.​
